"Uncorrelated wrongness" is the idea that stuck with me. If several different models are each wrong in different ways, stacking them cancels the noise and leaves real signal. But the Dugan data got there by accident, over 25 years. Can you actually design for that on purpose, or does it only ever show up by luck?
